Get paid sooner

# Early direct deposit

Your employer sends payroll information before payday. Some banks release the money as soon as that information arrives.

Quick answer

Early direct deposit lets some banks and credit unions release your paycheck as soon as they receive your employer's payroll file, which can be up to two days before the official payday. It is usually free, but timing depends on when your employer sends payroll, so it can vary from one pay period to the next. Do not schedule bills for the early date until you see a pattern.

## How it works

1. **Your employer sends a payroll file.** Through the ACH network, often a day or two before payday.
2. **Your bank receives it.** Normally the bank holds funds until the settlement date.
3. **Early deposit releases it right away.** The bank makes it available before settlement.

## Watch for

Early timing is not guaranteed. Holidays, employer schedules and bank cutoffs can change it.

## Common questions

### Does early direct deposit cost money?

Usually not. Some apps charge for instant access to pay outside direct deposit.

### Why did my deposit come late this time?

Your employer may have sent payroll later, or a holiday shifted settlement.

### Do federal benefits come early too?

Some banks release Social Security and other benefit deposits early as well.

## Disclosures

**Not a lender.** NeededCash.com is not a lender, loan broker, or agent of any lender and does not make credit decisions. We operate a free matching service that shares the information you submit with participating licensed lenders and lending partners, who may contact you with an offer and who pay us a referral fee.

**Rates and terms.** Each lender sets its own rates, fees, and terms and will disclose them in writing as required by the federal Truth in Lending Act before you sign. Personal and installment loans from lenders in our network typically carry APRs from about 5.99% to 35.99% with terms from 3 to 84 months. Representative example: a $5,000 loan over 36 months at 15.99% APR has 36 payments of $175.76 and a total cost of $6,327.36.
